Scottish bid to manufacture transfusion blood
Four Scottish universities are working on a "ground-breaking" project to manufacture blood for transfusions. The universities are working with the Scottish Blood Transfusion Service to generate red blood cells on a large scale for Scotland. Scientists have said that the industrial generation of blood from stem cells would end current supply problems.
Major Breakthrough in Alzheimer's Disease
Scientists have discovered how to grow the brain cells which cause memory loss in Alzheimers using stem cells. Professor Jack Kessler explains the scientific breakthrough and Professor Clive Ballard of the Alzheimer's Society discusses how the treatment might be applied to patients.

Scientists make eye's retina from Stem Cells
A part of the eye that is essential for vision has been created in the laboratory from animal stem cells, offering hope to the blind and partially sighted, scientists predict that one day, it may even be possible to create an eye in a dish. This also suggests that tissue or organ growth may be possible in the future.

Chemical Found Which Makes Bone Marrow Repair Skin
The chemical which summons stem cells in bone marrow to the site of a wound has been discovered by scientists in the UK and Japan. It is believed that this is a revolution to being able to use stem cells to treat damage internally could be applied to treat injuries such as burns and leg ulcers.

Stem cells used in stroke trial
Doctors in Glasgow have injected stem cells into the brain of a stroke patient in an effort to find a new treatment for the condition. The elderly man is the first person in the world to receive this treatment - the start of a regulated trial at Southern General Hospital.
